The Kent County Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the recipients of the 2024 Community Excellence Awards held on January 17, 2024 at the Chester River Yacht and Country Club in Chestertown. These awards honor outstanding contributions to our community, through commitment, innovation, and leadership in three distinct categories. Eastern Shore Urgent Care was named the 2024 Business of the Year, Horizons of Kent and Queen Anne’s was awarded the 2024 Organization of the Year, and Deeann Jones was recognized as the 2024 Individual of the Year.
The Maryland Department of Labor is partnering with the Maryland Chamber of Commerce to host a free informational webinar for employers looking for a better understanding of the state’s Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) Program. Department of Labor staff will discuss the planned implementation of this program, cost sharing and total rate of contribution, eligibility, benefit amounts and more. Join us to learn more and gain a better understanding of Maryland’s FAMLI Program.
The local creative community came together for a night of inspiration, collaboration, and networking at the Creatives Collaboration Mixer. Hosted by the Kent County Chamber of Commerce with the Kent Cultural Alliance, and sponsored by The Peoples Bank, the event showcased the immense talent of local creative producers while providing a unique platform for businesses to explore innovative partnerships.

The Kent County Chamber of Commerce held its annual Post-Legislative Session Discussion with legislators from Maryland’s 36th Electoral District on Wednesday, May 3rd, at Heron Point in Chestertown. This year’s session was moderated by Dawson Hunter, Transportation & Housing Coordinator for Kent County Economic and Tourism Development, and member of the Kent County Chamber of Commerce’s Voice of Business Committee.

The Kent County Chamber of Commerce was honored to present one Business, one Organization, and one Individual with Community Excellence Awards at its Annual Meeting on Wednesday, February 8 at the Chester River Yacht and Country Club. Modern Stone Age Kitchen was awarded the Business of the Year, Open Doors Partners in Education was awarded the Organization of the Year, and Richard Keaveney received Individual of the Year.
The Animal Care Shelter for Kent County (ACSKC) proudly announces the launch of Biz Barks, its year-long Business Sponsorship Program. Developed to support the ACSKC’s mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals in need, Biz Barks provides regional businesses with the opportunity to meaningfully contribute to the welfare of animals in Kent County while receiving exclusive benefits and recognition at various sponsorship levels.
The Town of Rock Hall has engaged Rivers & Roads Consulting, a leading consultancy based in Easton, Maryland, to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study for the establishment of a marine trades workforce training center. This initiative, funded by The Upper Shore Regional Council, aims to address the evolving needs of the marine trades sector in Rock Hall and support the growth and sustainability of the local economy.
Join the Kent County Public Schools Family Support Resource Center for a free workshop on wandering and elopement. "When They Wander or Run Away: Risk and Prevention Strategies" will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 24 in the media center at Kent County Middle School in Chestertown.
Corey N. Duncan, chairman of the board of directors of Peoples Bancorp, Inc., parent company of The Peoples Bank, today announced the appointment of Randall M. Robey, CPA as interim Chief Executive Officer and President of Peoples Bancorp, Inc. and The Peoples Bank. Mr. Robey's appointment follows the resignation of J. Scott Sturgill and is in accordance with the board’s management succession plan.
Choptank Community Health is expanding access to healthcare for behavioral health patients in Kent County through a new partnership with the Kent County Public Library (KCPL) and its Chestertown and North County branches to provide safe spaces and the use of iPads for telehealth appointments.
“Baskerville” opens April 19th and runs weekends through March 5th, with performances at 8:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays and 2:00 PM on Sundays. The Kent County Public Schools Education Foundation Fund is hosting a career and retirement celebration for Dr. Karen Couch in May. Dr. Couch, superintendent of Kent County Public Schools, has dedicated her career to education. Community members, colleagues, family and friends are all invited to a special celebration dinner for Dr. Couch from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 9 at the Chester River Yacht and Country Club.
Compass will be offering their three-day training session for any individuals interested in becoming a patient care volunteer. The training session is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 3, 10, & 17th. The training will be held at our Barnette Center's Conference room located at 255 Comet Dr. Centreville, MD 21617. Volunteers provide company for patients, relieve the primary caregiver for a short period of time, assist with administration duties, or grief services. We are always looking for Veterans to assist with our We Honor Veterans program.
Kent School looks forward to hosting our annual auction: The Magic Happens Here, Saturday, April 20 from 4:30-9:30 pm. The Auction will take place at Kent School’s riverside campus in the M.V. “Mike” Williams Gymnasium. The Magic Happens Here features the magical talents of magician Mike Rose. Rose will perform throughout the event including a stage show at 6:45p.m.
Kent County Public Schools is in the top rankings for high school graduation rates in Maryland. The school system here ranks fifth in the state with a high school graduation rate of 94.24%. The numbers were released by the Maryland State Department of Education Tuesday, March 26.
