The Kent County Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the recipients of the 2024 Community Excellence Awards held on January 17, 2024 at the Chester River Yacht and Country Club in Chestertown. These awards honor outstanding contributions to our community, through commitment, innovation, and leadership in three distinct categories. Eastern Shore Urgent Care was named the 2024 Business of the Year, Horizons of Kent and Queen Anne’s was awarded the 2024 Organization of the Year, and Deeann Jones was recognized as the 2024 Individual of the Year.
The Maryland Department of Labor is partnering with the Maryland Chamber of Commerce to host a free informational webinar for employers looking for a better understanding of the state’s Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) Program. Department of Labor staff will discuss the planned implementation of this program, cost sharing and total rate of contribution, eligibility, benefit amounts and more. Join us to learn more and gain a better understanding of Maryland’s FAMLI Program.
The local creative community came together for a night of inspiration, collaboration, and networking at the Creatives Collaboration Mixer. Hosted by the Kent County Chamber of Commerce with the Kent Cultural Alliance, and sponsored by The Peoples Bank, the event showcased the immense talent of local creative producers while providing a unique platform for businesses to explore innovative partnerships.

The Kent County Chamber of Commerce will host a Lunch & Learn Seminar focused on Estate Planning, starting at 11:30 am on Wednesday, June 28th. The Seminar will be held at the Dixon Training Center located at 101 Warner Drive in Chestertown, MD and will offer networking opportunities, free lunch, and an informative seminar on this important topic. Lunch is generously provided by Envision Wealth Planning, LLC and Mid-Shore Community Foundation and offers three options from Happy Chicken Bakery.
The Kent County Chamber of Commerce held its annual Post-Legislative Session Discussion with legislators from Maryland’s 36th Electoral District on Wednesday, May 3rd, at Heron Point in Chestertown. This year’s session was moderated by Dawson Hunter, Transportation & Housing Coordinator for Kent County Economic and Tourism Development, and member of the Kent County Chamber of Commerce’s Voice of Business Committee.
The Kent County Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Pre-Legislative Session Discussion with legislators from Maryland’s 36th Electoral District on Monday, January 10, 2022, from 8:30 am – 9:30 am. The event will be held virtually on Zoom.

The Kent County Chamber of Commerce was honored to present one Business, one Organization, and one Individual with Community Excellence Awards at its Annual Meeting on Wednesday, February 8 at the Chester River Yacht and Country Club. Modern Stone Age Kitchen was awarded the Business of the Year, Open Doors Partners in Education was awarded the Organization of the Year, and Richard Keaveney received Individual of the Year.
With a radio handle like "Captain Space," there's likely no more appropriate a song to launch your new radio station than "Rocket Man." At around noon on Thursday, March 28, 1974, after some opening news and other reports, Elton John's classic song became the first track played on 90.5 FM WKHS, Kent County High School's student radio station. This year marks radio station's 50th anniversary, with a broadcasting program that has continued to grow over the last five decades.
Kent Attainable Housing, Inc. (KAH) has been awarded $810,000 in Congressional funding to address the affordable housing crisis in Kent County, Maryland. Maryland's U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen secured the funding as part of a package of Fiscal Year 2024 government funding bills, which the President signed. This significant allocation is a vital step forward in addressing the urgent need for affordable housing in Kent County.
Kent School, an independent day school located on the bank of the Chester River in historic Chestertown, Maryland serving children in Preschool through Grade 8, has an immediate opening for an Administrative Assistant. The ideal candidate is efficient, detail-oriented, proactive, and skilled in developing and maintaining workplace and customer relationships. This position reports directly to the Head of School.
Compass will host its Annual Golf Tournament on Monday, April 29th at Prospect Bay Country Club, 311 Prospect Bay Dr. W, Grasonville. Proceeds from the tournament enable Compass to provide its services for residents of Caroline, Kent and Queen Anne’s counties.
A special education instructional assistant at Kent County Middle School was honored this month for how she builds strong relationships with students and families. At a meeting Monday, March 11 of the Kent County Board of Education, Brenda Price received the Golden Anchor Award.
Benedictine will hold its annual Spring Gala fundraiser, themed "Benedictine Bourbon Street Masquerade" on Saturday, April 27th at the Trident Aircraft Hangar in Easton. This important fundraiser benefits the students and adults living with developmental or intellectual disabilities and autism that Benedictine supports. Families, staff, community members, and businesses are all invited to celebrate the accomplishments of the past year.
On Friday, April 5, the Upper Shore Workforce Investment Board will host a highly anticipated Artificial Intelligence Conference at the Todd Performing Arts Center at Chesapeake College. This event promises a deep dive into the multifaceted landscape of artificial intelligence (AI) and its implications for government, business, and academia.
This month, Kent County Public Schools highlighted the work of 14 teachers and staff members as part of its annual awards program. Each school celebrated its Teacher of the Year and Support Employee of the Year on Friday, March 1 with surprise presentations of balloons and flowers. Special recognition also was given this month to the three nominees for the annual Promising Educator award.
The Garfield Center for the Arts has opened its annual call for play and musical titles for production consideration. Suggestions and proposals can be made by Directors who would like to present a play or musical in the 2025 season as well as by interested community members, patrons of the Garfield Center and arts participants. All proposals must be received by the Garfield Center by midnight on Sunday, April 21, 2024.
