November 2021 Kent Chamber Update

Sam Shoge, Executive Director

Greetings and happy November to our valued chamber members.

We had a flurry of activity during the past several weeks and I hope you were able to participate in one of the many activities we held. Missed any? Here is a recap:

Ribbon Cutting at American Rock Hall Service Center

We were thrilled to co-host a ribbon-cutting at American Rock Hall Service Center, a new automotive repair shop that opened recently in Rock Hall. We were joined by Kent County Economic Development and the Greater Rock Hall Business Association. Congratulations to owner Steve Leonard for opening his doors and serving the Rock Hall community.

Ribbon Cutting at Mid-Shore Pro Bono

The very next day after cutting the ribbon at American Rock Hall Service Center, we were back at it cutting the ribbon at Mid-Shore Pro Bono’s new office in downtown Chestertown. MSPB is a nonprofit organization that connects low-income people with legal representation in need of civil legal services.

2021 Kent BrewFest

The highly anticipated beer festival held in downtown Chestertown was a smashing success. More than 200 craft beer enthusiasts came out on a gorgeous Saturday to enjoy popular Delmarva breweries and live music from Bravenoise. Planning for next year’s event has already begun. Opportunity Zone Workshop

The Kent Chamber hosted Frank Dickson, Director of Strategic Business Initiatives at the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, for a workshop on the Opportunity Zone Program. The Opportunity Zone program is a nationwide initiative administered by the U.S. Treasury created under the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. The program provides federal tax incentives for investment in distressed communities over the next 10 years. Areas designated as Opportunity Zones will be able to reap the benefits of new capital investment to help redevelop underserved communities. Special thanks to Cross Street Realtors for sponsoring this event.
