A COZY WINTER SALON OF CLASSICAL MUSIC AT THE MAINSTAY The Brasswood Trio Brings Beautiful Music to Rock Hall on Sunday, February 22

On Sunday, February 22 at 4 PM The Mainstay in Rock Hall will be the venue for a cozy winter salon of 19th-century classical music. Salons were a weekly feature in Paris from the 16th century until the early 20th century, and one is the perfect antidote to winter malaise.

The Brasswood Trio’s 21st century’s version of this tradition features oboist Dana Newcomb, French hornist Anne Nye, and pianist Kendra Bigley, three musicians who exemplify the characteristics -- bright, inspired, and trend setters -- of the leaders of history’s great salons.

>>> Oboist Dana Newcomb earned her Bachelor of Music in Performance and Master’s Degrees from the Peabody Institute of Music. She is Principal Oboe for several orchestras in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New Jersey including the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra.

>>> Anne Nye, French Horn, is an orchestral and chamber musician who currently performs with the Brasswood Trio, Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, and Pennsylvania Philharmonic. Her Bachelor of Music degree in Performance is from the Wheaton Conservatory of Music.

>>> Pianist Kendra Bigley is a versatile musician, based in Pennsylvania, who performs frequently with chamber groups, operas, and orchestras. She earned degrees from the Eastman School of Music and Temple University.

“Given the infectious warmth of these three accomplished musicians and the elegant and inventive program they have put together, this will be a cozy concert to cheer us all up after this winter’s chill,” said Muphen Whitney, Volunteer Coordinator of the Classical Music Series. “The intimate atmosphere of The Mainstay and our wonderful audience also will add to the ambiance of a cozy winter salon.”

The program opens with 19-century composer Carl Reinecke’s Trio for Piano, Oboe, and Horn that will introduce the audience to all three members of the Trio. The other works to be performed include Hermann Neuling’s Bagatelle for Horn and Piano and Bela Bartok’s Three Folksongs from the County of Csik for Oboe and Piano.
