Artists Call for Mental Health Awareness Week

Crossroads Community and Corsica River Mental Health Services are hosting True Colors: Mental Health Awareness Art Show and are looking for artists in the Eastern Shore community and beyond. Entered artwork will be displayed at the Todd Performing Arts Center at Chesapeake College, October 3 through October 6, recognizing Mental Health Week. An Artists' reception will follow on Mental Health Awareness Day, October 7, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Crossroads Community is a non-profit organization providing behavioral health rehabilitation to five counties in the mid-shore region. Crossroads offers many recovery activities and programs, including therapeutically expressive art. Executive Director Holly Ireland said, “At least once a year, we like to display our client’s artwork to raise awareness and to show how therapeutic art can be. This year we are doing things a little differently by inviting everyone in the community to submit artwork because mental health affects us all.”

The Crossroads Community Outreach Committee: Chair Becky Groff, Heidi Pearce, Deanna Miller, Emily Hoffman, and Megan Parker.

The Crossroads’ Outreach Committee picked “True Colors” as this year’s theme. Co-chair Becky Groff said, “We are looking for artwork that depicts self-awareness and self-acceptance. Both of which are essential for mental well-being.”

Artists of all ages are invited to submit work such as paintings, drawings, photography, sculptures, mosaics, and poems. Prizes will be given to artists voted Best in Show. For requirements, please visit www.ccinconline.com or email Becky Groff at groffr@ccinconline.com. The deadline for submission is September 28.

Artists are also invited to donate their time and talents by leading workshops at our Centreville, Chestertown, or Cambridge locations to support our clients' exploration of their artistic abilities and create pieces for the show.
