Please join us at an exciting Big Reveal showcasing the newly developed Statement of Significance and key Themes for the proposed National Heritage Area spanning the Stories of the Chesapeake Heritage Area—from the C&D Canal to and including Dorchester County. These events will offer community members, partners, and regional stakeholders the first look at what makes this landscape nationally important.
During these in-person sessions, attendees will explore the compelling stories, cultural touchpoints, and historic and natural resources that give this region its unique identity. This is a rare opportunity to connect, learn, and celebrate our shared heritage together.
National Heritage Areas are places where historic, cultural, and natural resources combine to form cohesive, nationally significant landscapes. Unlike national parks, National Heritage Areas encompass large, lived-in communities. Their success depends on collaboration among residents, organizations, and local leaders—all working together to ensure heritage remains relevant, meaningful, and connected to community needs.
Participants will:
Learn more about what National Heritage Area designation means for the region
Preview the draft Statement of Significance and proposed Themes
Ask questions and share ideas
Help shape the priorities of this nationally significant initiative
Don’t miss this major unveiling that highlights the heart and soul of the Chesapeake region.
