CHESAPEAKE YOUTH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA: SUNDAY, APRIL 19 Renowned Young Musician Ensembles and Soloists to Perform at The Mainstay

The Mainstay in Rock Hall is pleased to welcome the very accomplished young musicians of the Chesapeake Youth Symphony Orchestra (CYSO) on April 19 at 4:00 PM. This special concert will showcase ensembles and soloists from this acclaimed non-profit youth orchestra program based in Annapolis. The CYSO, now in its 36th season, serves students from 8 years of age through 18 from throughout the region.

Ensemble pieces on the program, performed by CYSO’s Chamber Orchestra, include the "Spring" movement from Antonio Vivaldi's Four Seasons, Elegy by Gabriel Fauré, and Edvard Grieg's Holberg Suite. Violinists, cellists, and an oboist will perform solos.

The performances underscore the success of the CYSO’s mission "to ignite a passion for music by offering high-quality ensemble experiences that build musicianship, confidence, and community". In addition to having weekly rehearsals, performing in multiple concerts each season, and participating in special events such as master classes, community collaborations, and a Concerto Competition, CYSO members have been invited to perform in venues such as Carnegie Hall (several times) and in great concert halls internationally.

The young musicians' last biennial international trip was last summer when they went to Finland where they performed in concert halls throughout the country. They are scheduled to tour and perform in Japan in the summer of 2027.

CYSO Executive Director Dane Krich and Julien Benichou, Music Director and Conductor of CYSO’s Symphony and Chamber Orchestras will accompany the young musicians on their trip to Rock Hall. Benichou is widely recognized as a highly accomplished conductor noted for his energy, musicality, and clarity. Krich is a versatile freelance percussionist, educator, and arts administrator in the Baltimore–D.C. region.

“I hope everyone in Kent County will come to listen to and celebrate these incredible young musicians,” said Muphen Whitney, Volunteer Coordinator of The Mainstay’s Hedgelawn Classical Music Series. “They are the future of beautiful music in America and around the world, and our support of their dedication and accomplishments is vital.”
