Cocktail Class Oktoberfest Regatta

On Saturday, October 15, the Cocktail Class Wooden Boat Racing Association (CCWBRA) will conduct its season-end Oktoberfest Cocktail Class Regatta for the first time at Safe Harbor Great Oak Landing Marina on Fairlee Creek in Chestertown, MD.

Cocktail Class Racers are small, 8-foot, one-design homebuilt wooden racing boats powered by stock 6- or 8 hp outboard motors.  CCWBRA conducts regattas throughout the country, including many here on the Chesapeake.  At each regatta, races are divided into various classes: motor hp (6 or 8 hp), gender of driver, weight of driver, and age of driver (including kids’ classes).  The boats may be small, but the competition is always keen and fun for spectators to watch.

The Oktoberfest Regatta race course will be in Fairlee Creek, within easy viewing by spectators, who can expect to see lots of exciting and “fast” (25 mph max) action.  Spectators can also meet the Racers’ owners and drivers as they prepare and launch their boats, to learn more about this fun, family-friendly sport.
