Congressman Andy Harris, M.D., today announced the 2021 Congressional Art Competition is open for submissions. Each spring, the House of Representatives sponsors the competition to recognize the artistic talents of high school students in each congressional district throughout the country.

The competition is open to all high school students from Maryland’s First Congressional District. Congressman Harris will select one winner and that student will have the opportunity to display his or her artwork for one year in the U.S. Capitol building, alongside the work of other contest winners from around the country. Often times second and third-place contestants will be asked to display their work in the Congressman’s D.C. or district offices.

Congressman Harris issued the following statement:

“Once again, I am pleased to announce my office is accepting submissions for the annual Congressional Art Competition. We are lucky to receive numerous entries each year, and it’s never easy to select a winner. It’s an honor to get to witness firsthand the talents of so many of my young constituents, and I look forward to seeing the winning piece hang in the halls of the Capitol.”

The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 and since then, over 650,000 high school students have been involved. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Congressman Harris will once again be accepting digital submissions of artwork this year. High-quality photos of each student’s artwork should be submitted, via email, to MD01art@mail.house.gov. All digital artwork submissions must be received by Tuesday, April 27, 2021.
