Jody Baker, Sales Associate with Cross Street Realtors LLC and longtime local advocate for animal welfare, has sponsored adoption fees for four senior rescue animals at the Animal Care Shelter for Kent County in an effort to help some of the shelter’s longest-term residents find loving homes.
The sponsored animals, Mr. Blue, Oatie, Layla, and Etta Mommy, have collectively spent nearly 500 days waiting for permanent families. Each animal has a unique story, but all share the same need: compassion, comfort, and a place to belong.
“Senior animals are often overlooked, despite having so much love left to give,” said Baker. “I want to help remove one barrier to adoption and hopefully encourage someone to open their home to one of these deserving pets.”
Among the animals sponsored is Layla, a gentle hospice dog searching for a calm and loving home, and Etta Mommy, a senior cat rescued from a feral colony who has blossomed in foster care. The sponsorship also supports Mr. Blue, a social and affectionate dog who has become a staff favorite, and Oatie, a playful companion who has spent nearly six months waiting for adoption.
At Cross Street Realtors, community involvement and meaningful local connections remain central to the company’s mission. Baker’s sponsorship reflects the brokerage’s ongoing commitment to supporting organizations that strengthen and enrich the Kent County community.
“We are incredibly proud of Jody for her compassion and generosity,” said Stacy Kendall, Broker/Owner of Cross Street Realtors. “This is such a beautiful example of how our agents care deeply about the people, animals, and community around them.”
The Animal Care Shelter for Kent County continues to encourage community members to consider adoption, fostering, volunteering, and supporting local shelter initiatives.
