Kempland C.Walley, MD, The Orthopedic Center

The Orthopedic Center welcomes Kempland C. Walley, MD, a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of foot and ankle conditions. The Orthopedic Center is an affiliate medical practice of University of Maryland Shore Regional Health, a member organization of the University of Maryland Medical System.

Dr. Walley offers nonsurgical and surgical treatment options for patients with conditions ranging from common foot and ankle problems to complex deformities and injuries. His areas of expertise include minimally invasive foot and ankle surgery, total ankle replacement, complex deformity correction and reconstruction, sports-related injuries and fracture care. With extensive academic, clinical and research experience, Dr. Walley brings advanced expertise and a commitment to evidence-based orthopedic care. He has authored more than 200 publications and has contributed more than 150 presentations at national and international conferences.

Dr. Walley earned his medical degree from Penn State College of Medicine, where he received multiple distinctions for research and academic achievement. He completed a research fellowship in orthopedic biomechanics and patient outcomes at Harvard Medical School and has participated in collaborative research with Duke University School of Medicine.

He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Michigan, where he also served as a team physician for the men’s basketball team and the gymnastics team. Following residency, Dr. Walley completed an orthopedic foot and ankle reconstruction fellowship at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. His advanced training also includes experience at Texas Scottish Rite for Children and additional mini-fellowships in arthroscopy and foot and ankle sports medicine.

Dr. Walley has particular experience treating athletes and patients who require advanced reconstructive techniques. His approach emphasizes understanding each patient's individual concerns, lifestyle and goals before developing a personalized treatment plan.

“Helping patients move with less pain and return to the activities they enjoy is at the heart of what I do,” said Dr. Walley. “Patient education is an important part of that process. I want my patients to understand their condition and treatment options so we can work together to develop a plan that is right for them.”
