Kent School celebrated the completion of a major campus project with a ribbon cutting on Thursday, September 24, marking a significant milestone in the School’s Together We Soar capital campaign. The event celebrated the opening of the new Osprey Innovation Center and the newly renovated Deborah C. Williams Middle School, bringing expanded learning opportunities and modernized spaces to Kent School students and teachers.

The ribbon cutting brought together members of the Kent School community, including trustees, employees, families, alumni, donors, and community partners. A reception honoring the donors who made the projects possible followed the ribbon cutting.

“When we began the Together We Soar campaign in 2019 to celebrate the School’s 50th Anniversary, I could not have anticipated how transformative this campaign would be,” said Kent School Head of School Nancy Mugele. “Today, we are seeing the vision of that campaign come to life. These beautiful new and renovated spaces represent an investment not only in our campus, but in the future of our students and their learning.”

The Together We Soar campaign was launched with a $2.3 million goal established by Kent School’s Board of Trustees and Administration. The campaign sought to raise $1 million for the School’s endowment and $1.3 million for capital improvements, including a new front entrance for the Joan C. Merriken Administration Building, the Osprey Innovation Center, renovations and new spaces within the Deborah C. Williams Middle School, and improvements to the second floor of the M.V. Mike Williams Gymnasium.

The renovated Deborah C. Williams Middle School provides updated classrooms and learning spaces designed to meet the needs of Kent School’s Middle School students and faculty. The refreshed environment supports collaboration, curiosity and academic growth while providing students with spaces designed for the way they learn today.

The new Osprey Innovation Center expands opportunities for hands-on, interdisciplinary learning. Designed to encourage students to explore science, technology, engineering, art, design and innovation, the Center gives students opportunities to engage in creative problem-solving, experimentation and project-based learning.

“The Together We Soar campaign has been a true community effort,” Mugele said. “Every gift, every word of encouragement and every hour of work has helped us create a stronger future for Kent School. We are grateful to our community for believing in what is possible when we come together for our students. This space is a direct investment in potential. It sends a clear message to every student who walks through these doors: your ideas matter, your creativity has no ceiling, and the future is yours to shape.”

The completion of the Osprey Innovation Center and the renovated Deborah C. Williams Middle School represents another chapter in Kent School’s ongoing commitment to providing a joyful, engaging and innovative learning environment for students from PreSchool through Grade 8.
