Michael Wroten, MD, FAAPMR, recently joined University of Maryland Shore Regional Health (UM SRH) as a provider with University of Maryland Shore Medical Group - Comprehensive Rehabilitation Services. UM SRH is a member organization of the University of Maryland Medical System.

A native of Dorchester County, Dr. Wroten earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Salisbury University in Salisbury, Md. and his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore. After completing an internship in internal medicine at Medstar Washington Hospital Center, he served as Chief Resident during his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Medstar National Rehabilitation Hospital.

Most recently, Dr. Wroten has served Medstar National Rehabilitation Hospital in multiple capacities, including assistant director of the hospital’s residency program; director of the Resident Quality Improvement Rotation; director of the Sports Medicine Fellowship Quality Improvement Rotation; and coordinator for the Medical Student Clinical Rotation/Geriatrics Clerkship. He also was an attending physician and clinical assistant professor of Medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine. For Medstar National Rehabilitation Network, Dr. Wroten served as director of the Post-Polio Clinic and provided clinical leadership for the Network’s COVID Recovery Program.

During his education and medical career, Dr. Wroten has published multiple abstracts and conference papers, and also received various awards, including Attending Physician of the Year (2020-21), the Golden Needle Award from Medstar National Rehabilitation Hospital’s Residency Program (2018-19). He is board certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the Association of Academic Physiatrists, the American Telemedicine Association and the American Medical Association.

“Growing up on the Shore taught me that patients aren't just names on a chart -- they're neighbors, friends, family,” Dr. Wroten said. “I'm excited to bring everything I've learned back to the community that raised me, and to take care of the Eastern Shore the way it's always taken care of me.”
