Physical and Mental Health Connect at Crossroads Community’s 5K Run

SUBMITTED BY REBECCA GROFF | CROSSROADS COMMUNITY, INC.

Join Crossroads Community for the 2nd annual 5K run on Saturday, April 23. This family-friendly event will help support our neighbors with behavioral health needs and encourage physical and mental well-being in the community.

The run will begin at Safe Harbor Narrows Point in Grasonville (Kent Narrows) and continue along the Cross County Connector, where participants will enjoy scenic waterfront views.

Crossroads Community Board member Shontel Wilmer is heading up the event for the second year and plans to build on the successes from last year. “With less covid restrictions, we are hoping to see more runners and more support for mental health recovery,” she stated. Shontel and Chris Whitesell from the Kent Island Running Group charted the course, which is currently the only 5K run taking place on the Cross County Connector.

Participants have the option to walk or run and can join virtually. Awards will be given in different age groups for first place male and female. Leashed dogs are welcome, and first place will be awarded as well. Participants will receive a free t-shirt and have a chance to win door prizes.

All proceeds will support Crossroads Community, Inc, a non-profit behavioral health rehabilitation organization that serves five mid-shore counties on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. “We want to send the community a message that mental health is equally important as physical health, and if you or anyone you know has been diagnosed with a mental health disorder, Crossroads Community is here to help,” Shontel emphasized.
