Pumpkins, hay bales and mums decorated the front of Rock Hall Elementary School Friday afternoon, Oct. 27 for a fall farmers market.
Families, staff and community members joined together for the annual farmers market. Free produce was available and representatives from area service organizations were hand to talk with families.
Rock Hall Elementary is a designated Community School by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).
"Community schools serve as hubs to bring families, communities and partners together to remove barriers to learning," MSDE states in describing the program.

The fall farmers market at Rock Hall Elementary Oct. 27 did so, with families and community members coming out to enjoy the afternoon's activities.
"When we have the opportunity to hold these events the collaboration and partnership between the school and the community is so rewarding to witness," said Jory Mitzel, the Community School coordinator at Rock Hall Elementary.
In addition to bagging produce and enjoying food, families visited tables set up by local resource providers.
Among the providers, Choptank Community Health System had staff on hand giving flu shots to interested families.
There also were lots of family activities, like pumpkin painting and scarecrow making.
Carrie Sue's Cupcakery had a stand set up with treats and desserts at the Rock Hall Elementary School farmers market. Kimberly Rittenberry and daughter Raina Rittenbery try to decide on a sweet treat to enjoy.
"The number of community members who either lend a helping hand or show support by attending our events is incredible," Mitzel said. "Being able to work with community members for these events helps us build great opportunities for not only our families but the entire Rock Hall community."
