The Mainstay will present a special evening of live jazz on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 7:30 PM, featuring the acclaimed James Fernando Trio in a concert that also celebrates the release of the group’s latest recording. The performance offers audiences a rare opportunity to experience one of today’s most compelling jazz trios in an intimate setting, paired with direct engagement with the artist.
James Fernando has been hailed by World Music Report as a “prodigiously gifted composer and virtuoso pianist,” by Jazz Sensibilities as “limitless in his ability to articulate his ideas,” and by Contemporary Fusion Reviews as “creating one of the most amazing musical experiences you’ve ever had.” After building an impressive career that includes international performances, collaborations with GRAMMY Award–winning artists, and five album releases, Fernando formed the James Fernando Trio in 2023. Based in Philadelphia, the trio features Fernando on piano, Dan McCain on bass, and Kyon Williams on drums.
Despite being a relatively new ensemble, the James Fernando Trio has quickly established itself as one of the finest jazz groups active today. The trio has been presented nationwide at leading venues including The Kennedy Center, The Philadelphia Museum of Art, and The Ravenscroft, while also conducting workshops and performances at universities across the country. Their debut album, Philly 3, was released in 2026.
Steeped in the tradition of jazz legends such as Duke Ellington, Oscar Peterson, and Thelonious Monk, the James Fernando Trio balances technical mastery with a sense of playfulness and spontaneity. Their performances feature fresh interpretations of jazz standards alongside compelling original compositions, brought vividly to life through inventive improvisation, clever arrangements, and dynamic rhythmic interplay. Powerful, engaging, and downright fun, the trio delivers a live jazz experience that feels both timeless and contemporary.
In addition to the performance, the evening will include a special segment in which Fernando speaks with the audience about his latest release, offering insight into the recording process, compositional approach, and artistic journey. Following the concert, Fernando will be available for a question-and-answer session and an autograph signing.
The concert will take place at The Mainstay in Rock Hall, Maryland. Tickets are $25, and advance purchase is recommended due to limited seating and the interactive nature of the event. Combining live performance, storytelling, and direct audience engagement, this release celebration promises a memorable evening for jazz lovers and music enthusiasts throughout the region.
