The Mid-Shore is Going Purple Together

Mid Shore Behavioral Health, Inc. (MSBH) is collaborating with dozens of community partners to host the third annual “The Mid-Shore is Going Purple Together” on Saturday, September 24 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Long Wharf Park in Cambridge. This free event serves as a space for the community to unite against substance and work towards recovery for all. This year’s gathering will feature an interactive exhibit highlighting peer recovery stories across the mid-shore, a “Say Know to Drugs” poster contest, COVID vaccination mobile van, as well as a free barbeque lunch and Kona Ice for the first 250 attendees, live music featuring Arreal Tilghman Jr., DJ Infinite Sounds, a bounce house, and more. Several local behavioral health agencies will also be in attendance to provide substance use resources and information for the community.

For All Seasons Provides Tips for Coping with Back-to-School Anxiety

As the beach bags get put away and an inventory gets done on the status of backpacks and shoes, parents may have other worries about their children's readiness to return to school related to their children's anxiety and mental health. The American Psychological Foundation (apa.org) says that parents play an important role in helping kids feel ready for the transition back to school by encouraging them to share and express their feelings about returning to school. Tips include restarting the family's school-year routine a few weeks before school starts, getting to know new neighborhood children if you have moved, talking to your children, empathizing with their worries or fears, and asking for help to manage and cope.

Main Street Chestertown to Host 3rd Annual Chestertown Car Show

Chestertown is known for its history, art scene, and entertainment, and now thanks to Jon and Barbara Slocum, it’s gaining attention for its collection of amazing cars! Jon and Barbara partnered with Main Street Chestertown and started Cars on High in downtown Chestertown several years ago to provide car lovers and enthusiasts one night a month to showcase their vehicles and talk “cars”. This event, held the third Thursday of each month (April-October), brings dozens of cars to the 300 block of High Street where passersby can view the cars, ask questions, and marvel at feats of automotive prowess.

The Garfield Center to Hold Auditions for “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" September 17, 20, 22

To begin work on its 2022 season-closing production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” the Garfield Center will be holding open auditions in September for the musical, which will run weekends from December 2 through December 18. Featuring a score of music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, it was his first successful stage musical and one of several collaborations with lyricist Tim Rice.

Jeanette Jeffrey, MS, MPH, MCHES, Health Educator for University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Chestertown will lead the Healthy for Life evidence-based community nutrition and well-being program designed to empower individuals to make healthy food, nutrition and lifestyle choices.

For All Seasons School Supplies Giveaway and Resource Fair Draws Over 800 Participants

For All Seasons hosted its annual School Supplies Giveaway and Resource Fair on Thursday, August 18 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Idlewild Park in Easton with over 800 participants in attendance. Talbot County Department of Social Services was a key partner in contributing to the purchase of hundreds of backpacks pre-stuffed with supplies for community children in need. In addition to the backpacks and school supplies, the event offered community resources, free Italian ice, movie theater popcorn, snacks, schoolyard games, and a raffle.
