KCMS Students Tour Great Blacks in Wax Museum

Kent County Middle School students participating in mentoring program boarded a bus bound for Baltimore in early November for a special museum trip. On Thursday, Nov. 9, participants in the Achieving Academic Excellence and Equity for Black Boys (AAEEBB) program visited the National Great Blacks in Wax Museum. More than 30 students were joined on the field trip by the AAEEBB Program Coordinator Tyray Johnson and fellow middle school teachers and staff members Chanelle Copper, Desmond Hasty, Sara Moore and Delia Shoge.

Starting around four years ago, the school began collaborating with community members to launch the Good Seeds Garden. The effort sought to enhance the elementary school in Chestertown by creating curb appeal through additional landscaping.

The Garfield Center to Open "Little Women" December 1st

Many of us know Louisa May Alcott’s classic novel “Little Women.” It is the story of the March family, who live in a quiet Massachusetts town during the time of the Civil War. Kate Hammil’s adaptation brings the story to a modern audience, focusing on current relevant issues while maintaining a conscious understanding of the March family as we know them. The show opens Friday, December 1st and runs weekends through December 17th. Show times are 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays and 2pm on Sundays.

For All Seasons Recognized by Maryland Behavioral Intervention Team

For All Seasons, Inc. began partnering with Chesapeake College in October 2021 to offer support and therapy for its students to navigate life challenges and unexpected transitions via telehealth or in-person on the Wye Mills campus. Recently, For All Seasons, in partnership with the Chesapeake College Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT), earned recognition from Maryland BIT Affinity for Best/Promising Practice in the Field. Public Safety Supervisor Jim Miller received an individual Excellence in the Field commendation for his BIT work on campus.

Education Foundation Joins Giving Tuesday Event

A foundation providing additional support and opportunities for students and teachers in Kent County Public Schools is participating in an upcoming Giving Tuesday fundraising marathon. The Kent County Public Schools Education Foundation Fund will be a part of Mid-Shore Gives Tuesday, Nov. 28.  Hosted by the Mid-Shore Community Foundation, Mid-Shore Gives is being held on Giving Tuesday, the annual nonprofit drive on the first Tuesday afternoon Thanksgiving.

This year, high school students in the Kent Alternative Placement program are receiving community support through a weekly guest speaker series. That partnership is being fostered by Assistant Principal Tishara Collins, who is in her second year as the head of the KAP program at Kent County High School. Collins maintains a focus on building a sense of community inside the program and a connection with the broader community beyond the school walls.
