Local Volunteers, Former MLBer Celebrate Black History Month at RHES
Rock Hall Elementary School hosted its annual Black History Month celebration Friday, Feb. 23 with volunteer readers coming into the classrooms and an assembly with a local sports legend. In the morning, guest readers gathered in the media center, where they picked out books from the school's library collection and others brought in for the day from the Chestertown-based Sumner Hall organization.
For All Seasons Offers Focused Staff Trainings Around Trauma
For All Seasons’ Center for Learning has been holding trainings for its staff, focusing on populations who experience trauma such as human trafficking, veterans’ issues, and the stress of being a first responder. Most recently, the Center completed training around the topic of human trafficking. The training, “Polaris Human Trafficking 101,” covered how human trafficking happens, understanding human trafficking victims, and recognizing human trafficking in our communities, as well as featured stories of human trafficking survivors.

The milestone was recognized in February as part of the National School-Based Health Care Awareness Month. KCMS Highlights 'Elements' of Black History
Kent County Middle School has taken the most famous chart in science and turned it into a celebration of Black History Month. A wall near the school's office and entryway has what appears to be a large hand-made version of the Periodic Table of Elements, but it is not about the atomic building blocks. The Periodic Table of Influential African Americans highlights Black leaders, scientists, artists and activists throughout history.
UM Shore Regional Health’s Next Community CPR Course is March 13
University of Maryland Shore Regional Health’s next “Saving Lives Together: CPR Basics for Community Heroes” non-certification course will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 13. The course is offered quarterly, in-person at UM Shore Medical Center at Chestertown, 100 Brown St. There is no charge for the course, but registration is required.

The Garfield Center Opens Registration for its 2024 Playmakers Youth Theatre Camp
The Garfield Center has announced the 2024 Playmakers Director and production title and the date of open registration for this summer’s camp. For scheduling reasons, the camp starts a little earlier this year, with the first date of camp beginning June 24th and the camp-ending performance weekend on July 19, 20 and 21. A well-loved and successful theatrecraft and acting camp for young aspiring performers ages 8 through 15, the Garfield Center’s registration begins Friday, March 1st.
