The Kent County Board of Education this month named a new slate of members to the Citizen Advisory Committee. The committee meets publicly at least four times a year about specific issues impacting educational policy, activities and programs.

Finalists Announced in Superintendent Search
Three frontrunners have emerged in the Kent County Board of Education's search for the next superintendent of schools. The search process launched in January when Dr. Karen Couch, the current superintendent, announced her plans to retire at the end of the current school year. The board hired the Maryland Association of Boards of Education (MABE) to lead the search for Dr. Couch's replacement. With initial interview rounds complete, the board has announced that the three finalists are: Dr. Mary Boswell-McComas, Dr. LeTrecia Gloster and Dr. Dawn Lucarelli.

UM Shore Regional Health (UM SRH), a member organization of the University of Maryland Medical System, has earned re-designation as a Magnet® organization from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). ANCC’s Magnet Recognition Program® distinguishes health care organizations that meet rigorous standards for quality patient care, nursing excellence and innovations in professional nursing practice. The coveted recognition is the highest national honor for professional nursing practice and requires re-designation every four years.

Andy Cheezum Announces Retirement from Willow Construction
After 30 years with Willow Construction, Vice President Bernard A. “Andy” Cheezum Jr., CHC, has announced his plan to retire, effective December 31, 2024. Cheezum began his career at Willow in 1989, working part-time as a Project Coordinator while completing his bachelor’s degree in construction management from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). Upon his graduation in 1990, he left Willow to pursue a career with a national general contractor based in Baltimore, Maryland, where he gained valuable experience. In 1994, Cheezum returned to the Eastern Shore and restarted his career at Willow as a Project Manager.
Benedictine Programs and Services Receives $1.8 Million 2024 Congressionally Directed Spending Funding
Benedictine is pleased and honored to announce that it has been awarded $1.8 million in Fiscal Year 2024 Congressionally Directed Spending through the Omnibus Spending Bill under the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The funding, requested and secured by U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), will support the construction of a new school residential facility. Senators Cardin and Van Hollen’s support and advocacy was instrumental in Benedictine’s request.
