The Kent County Board of Education honored wrestling standout Scottie Ford, track star Ramon "R.J." Peterson and swimming champion Henry Martinez during a meeting held Monday, April 14.

THE GCA’s “THE KITCHEN SINK CABARET” MAY 17 FUNDRAISER CONCERT TO FEATURE GREAT MUSIC
It’s Pop. It’s Rock. It’s Broadway. It’s Jazz. It’s Old Standards. One might say it’s everything, including the kitchen sink! The Garfield Center for the Arts will present “The Kitchen Sink Cabaret” on Saturday, May 17th at 8 PM. It’s an evening of diverse music, with songs chosen by its performers from any genre. It will be one of two fundraiser concerts the GCA will present this year as the organization ramps up their efforts toward a capital campaign for a new stage, rigging and other facility needs.
Partnerships Make a Difference in Mental Health for Area Veterans and Their Families
More than one in four people on Maryland’s Eastern Shore are part of the military community – either active military, guard reservists, veterans, or family members of the military. To help serve the needs of this significant population, For All Seasons has gotten a second matching grant from the Sheila E. Hixson Behavioral Health Services Matching Grant Program to address the high instances of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression, and sexual assault-related trauma among local service members, veterans, and their families.
Owen Joins Chesapeake Investment Advisors
Kristen Owen, CFP®, recently joined Marty Knight and Jenna Joswick at Chesapeake Investment Advisors, an independent financial services practice located at 106 Spring Avenue in Chestertown. Owen began her career with Chesapeake Bank & Trust Company in 2005, shortly after graduating from McDaniel College with a B.A. in History. She passed the Series 7 & 66 exams in 2015 and obtained her CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM designation in 2019.
KCPS Budget Town Hall May 1
Dr. Mary Boswell-McComas, superintendent of Kent County Public Schools, is holding a town hall on the proposed budget for next year. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 1 at the Kent County Public Schools Administrative Building in Rock Hall. Dr. McComas will give a presentation on the budget proposal currently being reviewed by the Kent County Board of Education and will listen to comments and answer questions from attendees.
Main Street Historic Chestertown Facade Improvement Grant - Application Deadline Extended
Main Street Historic Chestertown (MSHC), with funding from the Community Legacy program administered by the State of Maryland’s Department of Housing and Community Development, offers matching grants for façade improvements made to commercial buildings and storefronts in the historic downtown district. The program was created to encourage building renovaon, historic preservation, and improved economic vitality. It is known that quality aesthetics increase property values and sales revenues and improve the marketability of space within the buildings.
Annual Title I Meeting for Families
Kent County Public Schools invites parents and families to a special meeting this month to learn more about Title I schools and provide input. The Title I Parent and Family Engagement Meeting will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 24 in the media center at H.H. Garnet Elementary School in Chestertown. This meeting is held each year to help families stay engaged and learn about the opportunities offered under Title I.
