Cochran receives Golden Anchor Award

Kent County High School's administrative secretary was honored this month with the Golden Anchor Award for being everyone's "go-to person" in the building.

Skyler Cochran received her award from the Kent County Board of Education Monday night, Oct. 13.

The Golden Anchor Award is presented each month to staff members or groups of employees who exemplify the mission and core values of Kent County Public Schools.

“Kent County Public Schools is an anchor organization that creates an environment of academic excellence through a collaborative, equitable and rigorous learning community,” the mission statement reads.

Kent County Public Schools Director of Human Resources Dan Hushion and Kent County High School Principal Kris Hemstetter were on hand Oct. 13 to present Cochran with her award.

Hemstetter said every student in the high school knows Cochran by name and speaks fondly of her.

"Mrs. Cochran is the anchor of Kent County High School," Hemstetter said. "And she's our MVP. She brings an unmatched expertise, gentle humor and unwavering dedication to our school every day. We are better because of her."

Nominations for the Golden Anchor Award may be submitted each month by Kent County Public Schools staff members, parents and students.
