Galena Elementary School's custodian was honored with this month's Golden Anchor Award for her hard work and dedication.

Michelle Crouch received her award from the Kent County Board of Education Monday night, Oct. 9.

The Golden Anchor Award is presented each month to staff members or groups of employees who exemplify the mission and core values of Kent County Public Schools.

“Kent County Public Schools is an anchor organization that creates an environment of academic excellence through a collaborative, equitable and rigorous learning community,” the mission statement reads.

Nominations may be submitted by Kent County Public Schools staff members, parents and students.

Galena Elementary School Principal Becky Yoder was on hand Oct. 9 to present Crouch with the Golden Anchor Award.

"Michelle Crouch is the essence of a team player," Yoder said. "She puts her heart and soul into her job every day and takes pride in her work."

Yoder said that Crouch goes above and beyond her regular duties keeping the school clean for students and staff.

Crouch worked very hard over the summer to improve and beautify spaces in the building. She took on the challenging job of organizing and improving the school's storage area and, with her husband, spent time over summer weekends repainting all the lockers in the building.

"This transformation has been truly amazing and we owe it all to Michelle," Yoder said.
