Get to Know Kent County’s Human Resources Director, Michael Sutton

Michael Sutton, Director of Human Resources

Kent County is pleased to highlight Michael Sutton, who joined the County  about eight months ago as our Director of Human Resources. Michael brings more than 30 years of HR and  operations leadership experience, supporting organizations across healthcare, education, manufacturing,  technology, retail, nonprofit, and global corporate environments.  

Before coming to Kent County, Michael served as Area Vice President of Operations and HR for HouseWorks,  where he led a multi-million-dollar home health care operation and oversaw HR functions, compliance,  investigations, workforce development, customer service, and policy implementation.  

He also previously served as Regional HR Director for Watermark Retirement Communities, managing a large  group of HR professionals across multiple states and leading major initiatives in compliance, employee  engagement, DE&I, and workplace culture. 

Michael’s earlier experience includes HR and management roles with Qualicon Diagnostics (Hygiena), Compass  Group at the University of Pennsylvania, Lowe’s, and global HR and operations leadership roles at SAP America,  where he supported international teams and large-scale organizational projects. 

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from LaSalle University.  

Michael has already made a strong impact in his time with Kent County—enhancing employee relations,  supporting leadership development, strengthening compliance, and helping shape a more collaborative and  supportive workplace.
