Kent School proudly celebrated the Graduation of the Class of 2026 during a heartfelt ceremony honoring students’ achievements, growth, and readiness for the next chapter of their educational journeys.
Families, faculty, trustees, alumni, and friends gathered to recognize the accomplishments of the graduating class and reflect on the values that have guided students throughout their time at Kent School: curiosity, character, compassion, and a love of learning.
A highlight of the ceremony was an inspiring address by alumna Helen Cammerzell, a member of Kent School’s Class of 2009. Drawing on her own experiences as a Kent School student, Cammerzell said, “Your Kent School experience has prepared you not only academically, but also as thoughtful and engaged members of your communities,” Cammerzell told graduates. “As you move forward, carry with you the curiosity to explore, the courage to take risks, and the kindness to make a difference.”
Head of School, Nancy Mugele congratulated the graduates and recognized the dedication of students, teachers, and families who contributed to the success of the Class of 2026.
“Today we celebrate more than academic achievement,” Mugele said. “We celebrate perseverance, growth, friendship, and the unique gifts each student brings to the world. The members of the Class of 2026 leave Kent School prepared to thrive and lead with integrity.”
At Graduation, several merit awards are presented. The Brian B. Kane, Jr. Award is given to a 7th Grade student who demonstrates determined effort, quality academic work, and displays a helpful, cooperative and responsible attitude. The award is the only Kent School award with a monetary value. Seventh Grade student Carmen Dean was awarded the 2026 Brian B. Kane, Jr. Award.
The Americanism Award is presented in recognition of the student who demonstrates the qualities of courage, honor, leadership, patriotism, scholarship and service. The Americanism award was presented by the Sgt. Preston Ashley American Legion Post 228 in recognition of this student’s outstanding servant leadership, compassion, and, most importantly, his outstanding citizenship and service to the School. This award, given by John and Genie Larrimore, was presented to Sai Shajwani.
The Joan C. Merriken Award for Excellence in Literature is given in recognition of a student who demonstrates a love of literature, appreciation of and sensitivity to the writer's art, and ability to use reading as a well-spring for rich self expression. The recipient of this award exemplifies a profound passion for literature. She consistently engages in thought-provoking discussions, eagerly dives into her reading assignments, and is excited to express her thoughts through writing. The 2026 recipient was Lula Bramble,
The Osprey Award is given in recognition of the student who best represents the most positive qualities of moral leadership and excellence to the Kent School Community. This year’s winner exemplified these traits. Whether participating in the classroom, on the sports field, or performing on stage, she continually motivates her classmates with positive affirmations and helpful suggestions. She is an outstanding role model for younger students. Carrington Gerstmyer was the recipient of the 2026 Osprey Award.
Finally, remarks were shared about each graduate as they were awarded their Certificate of Completion. Members of the Kent School’s Class of 2026 will be attending the following secondary schools: Episcopal High School, Georgetown Prep, Georgetown Visitation, Gonzaga, The Gunston School, Indian Creek School, Kent County High School (STEM Academy), and Sts. Peter and Paul.
As the Class of 2026 received their certificates, they joined a distinguished network of Kent School alumni who continue to embody the school’s mission of inspiring confident learners and compassionate citizens.
Kent School extends its congratulations to the Class of 2026 and wishes its graduates every success as they begin the next stage of their educational journeys.
