Drew McMullen
Kent School is pleased to announce the appointment of Drew McMullen to its Board of Trustees. A respected educator, nonprofit leader, and longtime advocate for environmental literacy, McMullen brings more than 30 years of leadership experience and a deep commitment to the Chestertown community.
McMullen is the co-founder and President of the Sultana Education Foundation (SEF), a Chestertown-based nonprofit that delivers Maryland State Department of Education-certified Environmental Literacy field programs to PreK–12 students across 15 Maryland counties. Since founding the organization, he has guided SEF from a small startup into a nationally recognized leader in environmental education.
Under McMullen’s leadership, SEF has developed a thriving Chestertown campus, expanded its professional staff to 25 employees, grown its annual operating budget to $2 million, created educational programs that have served more than 250,000 students, and established a strong organizational endowment to support its long-term mission.

His perspective will be invaluable as we continue to advance Kent School’s mission and prepare students to become thoughtful, engaged citizens.”
Before co-founding SEF, McMullen held positions with Deutsche Bank, H.G. Wellington Capital Management, and Echo Hill Outdoor School. His contributions to education and conservation have earned widespread recognition. He was appointed by President Barack Obama to serve on the National Park Service’s Chesapeake National Historic Trail Advisory Council and was named an “Ambassador of the Chesapeake” by Governor Martin O’Malley. McMullen also serves on the Board of Directors of Chesapeake Bank and Trust Company.
A graduate of Amherst College and St. Paul’s School (New Hampshire), McMullen and his wife, Claire Gervais, live in Chestertown. Their two children, Evan ‘18 and Savannah ‘11, are both proud graduates of Kent School.
“As parents of Kent School alumni, Drew and Claire have experienced firsthand the impact of a Kent School education,” Mugele added. “We are grateful for Drew’s willingness to serve and look forward to the insight, leadership, and enthusiasm he will bring to our Board of Trustees.”
