Thanks to support from the Home Depot Foundation, parents will find a new welcome area when they drop off and pick up their children at Galena Elementary School this fall.

The Garfield Center for the Arts has announced audition dates for their upcoming production of the Neil Simon comedy The Good Doctor. Auditions are set for Tuesday and Thursday, July 12th and14th, both starting at 5:30 PM, and Saturday, July 16th, starting at 1:30 PM. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Needed are at least 2 female and 3 male actors, but flexible casting involving a larger cast size is likely. Familiarity with the script is helpful but not necessary.

ShoreRivers received an overwhelmingly positive response from the community to the return of its Solstice Celebration under the tent on the banks of the Chester River this year. More than 300 environmental stewards gathered in support of ShoreRivers, with a specific and urgent emphasis on environmental education. Raising nearly $140,000 for science-based advocacy, restoration, and education programming, the Solstice Celebration capped a week of expeditions and experiences that reinforced the nonprofit’s mission toward environmental action.

Kent School was delighted to host PBS’s A Taste of History Chef Walter Staib and Kent County High School’s Culinary Arts Director, John Keller, at Mowbray Chapel for an evening benefiting Kent School’s Osprey Fund on Thursday, June 16. The event was the culmination of donations sold at Kent School’s spring auction held in April. The donors who partnered to make the special event happen were Chef Walter Staib, Patricia Kirby, proprietor of Mowbray Chapel which is a new event venue in Chestertown and Neyah White, proprietor of The Retriever Restaurant and Decoy Bottle Shop.

Comedy and laughter is the theme for this year’s edition of the Garfield Center’s annual Short Attention Span Theatre. Presenting a diverse set of short plays ranging from the outrageous to the hilarious, this year’s SAST received over 350 script submissions from playwrights across the country and internationally. SAST opens for live performances starting June 24th.
