The University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) will visibly demonstrate support for the state’s veterans this week by illuminating all of its hospitals in green. Each evening, as part of the national Operation Green Light initiative, member hospitals will literally shine the light on veterans and available resources to help them transition into civilian culture.

Benedictine was the recipient of a Phillips Charitable Foundation Grant in the amount of $48,558 that was utilized to upgrade adult group homes located in Annapolis and Denton, Maryland. Phillips Charitable Foundation mission is to support organizations that provide necessary change in the lives of vulnerable populations by solving problems and removing obstacles that lead to lasting solutions. This is a perfect match to Benedictine’s belief that all individuals, regardless of their abilities, can be productive and active members of their communities.

Students in Kent County Public Schools commemorated Veterans Day Friday, Nov. 11 with talks and assemblies during which they learned about the importance of service.

Choptank Community Health System has expanded into Kent County at 126 Philosophers Terrace in Chestertown, Md. The community health center is providing primary care and behavioral health services at the location, with new patients currently being welcomed.

Kent County High School students are taking the stage for one night only to perform what is arguably the most famous play in history. KCHS Theatre presents William Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" Thursday evening, Nov. 17. The curtain goes up in the high school's auditorium at 7 p.m.

At a recent community conversation, “Life is Better with You Here: A Community Conversation about Suicide Prevention,” at the Avalon Theatre in Easton, CEO Beth Anne Langrell, Chief Clinical Officer Lesa Lee, LCSW-C, and moderator Bruce Grove, QACTV, shared practical strategies and tips for reaching out to those who are struggling with suicidal thoughts.

Kent County High School's Spanish Honor Society added five new members this fall. The induction ceremony for the Capitulo Los Troyanos Sociedad Honoria Hispánica was held in the high school's media center Wednesday evening, Oct. 26.
