Throughout the month of February, Kent County Public Schools celebrated Black History Month in daily classroom activities and with special events and assemblies. Rock Hall Elementary School held its annual Black History Month celebration Thursday, Feb. 23 with volunteer readers coming into the classrooms.
Maryland Tax Credits Awarded to Main Street Historic Chestertown
Main Street Historic Chestertown (MSHC) has been awarded for the 5th year an allocation of $20,000 in Maryland state tax credits to support its 2023 fundraising efforts. The Community Investment Tax Credits (CITC) are awarded by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development through a highly competitive application process. The CITC program provides a tax credit to donors equal to 50% of any donation of $500 or greater.
Calling All Artists for RiverArts Paint the Town April 20-23
"Paint the Town" is a 4-day event. From Thursday through early Saturday afternoon artists paint the scenes throughout the county that interest them. On Saturday afternoon everyone frames their work and hangs them in the newly redesigned RiverArts’ gallery in preparation for the "Wet Paint Show & Sale". Once the show is up, the participating artists vote for "Best in Show" and "Best Body of Work". The ribbons are placed just before the show opens to the public.
Charlie Brown, Snoopy on KCHS Stage This Weekend
Charlie Brown, his dog Snoopy and the whole "Peanuts" gang will entertain audiences in the Kent County High School auditorium this weekend. Charles M. Schultz' beloved comic strip will come alive with the high school's production of the musical "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown." Performances are Friday and Saturday, March 3 and 4. The curtain goes up at 7 p.m. for both performances.
Kent Attainable Housing, Inc. Held an Open House & Ribbon Cutting to Commemorate the Opening of Their New Office Location in Chestertown
On Friday, February 17, 2023, with over 80 community members and leaders in attendance, Kent Attainable Housing, Inc. (KAH) celebrated the opening of its new office location with a Kent County Chamber of Commerce sponsored Ribbon Cutting and a KAH Open House. This location marks the first physical location for KAH to run operations since its founding in 2019.

WKHS Hosts WXPN Team for Daylong Workshop
Kent County High School's student radio station 90.5 WKHS hosted a trio of special guests in the studio earlier this month. Kate Brett, Jared Styles and Bruce Warren drove down from WXPN in Philadelphia Thursday, Feb. 9 to visit the high school and speak with the broadcasting students about their careers in radio.
