The YMCA of the Chesapeake announces that registration is open for 2023 youth summer camp programs at its Cecil County, Talbot County, Dorchester County, Kent County, Lower Shore, Queen Anne’s County, and Wicomico County locations. KCHS Receives AP Award for Female Diversity
Kent County High School has been recognized by the College Board for expanding young women's access to Advanced Placement (AP) computer classes. The high school here has earned the AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award for its work toward "equal gender representation" over the 2021-22 school year.
Free Health Screenings Offered for Marine Industry Workers in Rock Hall on March 16
“Shore to Shore,” an afternoon featuring free health care screenings for marine industry workers, is planned for Thursday, March 16, 12 noon to 4 p.m. in Rock Hall. Provided by UM Shore Medical Center’s Rural Health Care Transformation Team and the Shore Community Outreach Team (formerly known as the Mobile Wellness Team) in partnership with Choptank Community Health Services, the “Shore to Shore” event will take place at the American Legion Post 228, 21423 East Sharp Street in Rock Hall. Screenings offered include blood pressure checks, hearing tests, skin checks for signs of melanoma and A1C measurement for diabetes.
Kent School’s Annual Auction Features Comedian
Kent School looks forward to hosting our annual auction: It’s No Joke on Saturday, April 1 from 4:30-9:30 pm. The Auction will take place at Kent School’s Riverside Campus in the M.V. “Mike” Williams Gymnasium. The It’s No Joke auction will feature Larry Noto, a prominent Maryland stand up comedian who will provide entertainment.
Clinical Trial Aids Chestertown Man in Beating Aggressive Cancer
When Chestertown native Rick Miller began exhibiting puzzling and severe symptoms — fainting spells, changes in his speech and behavior, trouble walking, migraines and periods of confusion — he and his wife, Diana Miller, knew that he would likely require highly specialized care. The 61-year-old was ultimately diagnosed with aggressive brain cancer and received a combination of surgery and cancer treatments, thanks to the coordinated efforts of physicians within the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS).
United Way of Kent County To Host Bocce Tournament
United Way of Kent County (UWKC) will hold a fund-raising bocce tournament on Saturday, April 1, from 12 to 5 at Wilmer Park in Chestertown. The rain date is April 2. Registration and donation information is posted on the UWKC website. All ages are welcome. No prior experience with the game is required.
Guest Speakers Inspire Students at Middle and High Schools
The middle and high school uplifted students last week with special guest speakers at a pair of Black History Month assemblies. At Kent County High School on Wednesday, Feb. 22 students gathered in Trojan Arena to hear from a full slate of motivational speakers, among them celebrities and alumni Yvng Swag and Juante Wilson.
Bordley History Center Now Open
The Bordley History Center, located at 301 High Street, is now open after its winter hiatus. Beginning Thursday, March 2, the Bordley museum and gift shop will be open Thursdays and Fridays, 11 am-2 pm, and Saturdays, 10 am-1 pm. The Bordley will also be open on First Fridays, 5 pm-7 pm. The museum is free and open to the public.

The Chestertown Rotary Club presents their second annual “Spring Fling” event at The Chester River Yacht and Country Club, March 18th starting at 5:30pm. This event is a fundraiser to benefit the club’s community scholarship fund. Guests will enjoy an evening’s entertainment including a sumptuous buffet dinner, a roving magician, music and dancing, as well as a silent auction.
