The Garfield Center’s Annual Short Attention Span Theatre opens June 23!

Presenting a diverse set of short plays ranging from the outrageous to the hilarious, this year’s edition of the Garfield Center’s Short Attention Span Theatre received over 1000 script submissions from local, national and international playwrights. SAST opens for live performances starting June 23rd. Produced by Mark Sullivan, and mounted in collaboration between a large cast and crew of local performers, directors and technicians, SAST will once again feature 8 ten-minute plays, some of which will be appearing on a stage for the first time.

Although For All Seasons has been working with victims of human trafficking for years, this program connects our Regional Navigator with experts across the state to better support human trafficking victims on the Mid-Shore.

Volunteer Tutors Receive a 'Standing Ovation'

A group of dedicated volunteers who have been working with Rock Hall students on math received special recognition from Kent County Public Schools earlier this month. The volunteer corps from the Kent Learning Center have spent more than a year now working with children at Rock Hall Elementary School. For their efforts they received the Standing Ovation Award at a Kent County Board of Education meeting Monday, May 8.

Maryland Swim for Life Returns June 3

Previously held each September, this year’s Maryland Swim for Life on the Chester River has been scheduled for Saturday, June 3. Hosted by the District of Columbia Aquatics Club and sanctioned by U.S. Masters Swimming, the Maryland Swim for Life is an open water event and community fundraiser held annually at Rolph’s Wharf on the Chester River in Chestertown.

KCMS Students Play the Game of LIFE

Kent County Middle School brought the classic board game the Game of LIFE to life for eighth graders, giving them a lesson about the real responsibilities of being an adult. On Thursday, May 18, the morning started for the eighth graders in the gym, where teacher specialist Cheryl Fracassi explained just what was in store in the game.  Tables were set up around the gym, each one a different station for students tying into the morning's overarching lesson in financial literacy.

Caroline County's Milton ("Milt") Nagel Named New Executive Director of Maryland Association of Boards of Education (MABE)

Board members from the Maryland Association of Boards of Education (MABE) today announced that Caroline County native Milton (“Milt”) Nagel has been named new Executive Director for the statewide association which represents all of Maryland’s 24 public school systems. Nagel, whose new role begins on July 1 of this year, takes the reins from Frances (“Francie”) Glendening, who has led MABE’s efforts over the past decade. He moves into the Executive Director slot from his current role as MABE’s Deputy Executive Director.

Rebuilding Together Volunteers Donate Over 500 Hours to Complete Repairs in Kent County

Each year, Rebuilding Together affiliates across the country honor their commitment to safe and healthy housing by declaring April “National Rebuilding Month.”  While many activities occur before and after April to coordinate and complete the planned repairs, the official launch this year began with the organization’s inaugural “SheBuild” - a one day workshop to empower women to be comfortable using tools that are common in household repairs. Six local ladies spent Saturday, April 1st in Bob Ortiz’s workshop, constructing a step stool under the expert tutelage of Jenn Kuhn, Shipyard Education Programs Manager for the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum.
