Compass will be offering their three-day training session for any individuals interested in becoming a patient care volunteer. The training session is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 6, 7, & 21. The training will be held at our Barnette Center's Hope & Healing Conference room located at 255 Comet Dr. Centreville, MD 21617. Volunteers provide company for patients, relieve the primary caregiver for a short period of time, assist with administration duties, or grief services.

Kent County Public Schools is hosting informative sessions to help parents with little ones get ready for the big step that is potty training. "Potty Training 101" is being presented in three sessions this summer by the Judy Center Early Learning Hub and the Infants and Toddlers Program.

The YMCA of the Chesapeake invites the entire Eastern Shore community to join its Summer Bucket List Challenge and enjoy a screen-free summer. The Challenge begins on Monday, June 19th and is part of the YMCA’s national Strong Life initiative to strengthen people in spirit, mind and body.

Wednesday, June 7, marked the graduation ceremony for Kent School’s Class of 2023. Students, parents, employees, Trustees and community gathered in the M. V. “Mike” Williams Gymnasium to celebrate the graduating class. The eleven member class was recognized for their embodiment of academic, artistic, athletic and moral excellence.

Children who have been hurt and/or neglected within their families in their early years of development can be traumatized by these experiences and find it difficult to feel safe and secure within their families. This is sometimes called developmental trauma. To help local therapists have the tools they need to deal with this trauma, For All Seasons’ Center for Learning, in partnership with Mid Shore Behavioral Health, Inc., recently offered a training program in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP), taught by the founder of the DDP modality, Daniel A. Hughes, Ph.D. on May 17-20, 2023.

The student musicians of the Kent County Middle School Trojan Band Program showed their prowess last month, receiving top ratings at a music festival. Under the direction of teacher Troy Stupart, the middle school band performed Friday, May 19 at the Six Flags America Music Festival in Upper Marlboro. Both the sixth-grade Rising Trojan Band and the Trojan Concert Band. comprising seventh and eighth graders, received Superior Ratings from the judges, demonstrating their skill and dedication.

Marking its 21st year, the Benedictine Foundation Chrome City Fundraiser will take place on Sunday, July 30th. Known as one of the largest rides in Maryland, this annual event draws more than a 1,000 riders and brings together over 2000 people to Benedictine’s Ridgely campus in support of its mission. 

Kent County Public Schools is offering free summer meals for all children under 18 years of age.  As part of KCPS' efforts to ensure that children have access to healthy food during the summer months, meals will be available at no charge for children. No application is required. The meal distribution site will be located at H.H. Garnet Elementary School, 320 Calvert St., Chestertown.

Multiple cardiovascular centers associated with the University of Maryland Shore Regional Health (UM SRH) have re-earned the industry gold standard in echocardiography accreditation.  Cardiovascular Diagnostic Centers at UM Shore Medical Centers at Chestertown and Easton, and at Shore Medical Pavilions at Cambridge, Easton and Queenstown, have earned renewed three-year Echocardiography Reaccreditation by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC).

The 25th Annual Caliber Awards was hosted by Mid Shore Behavioral Health, Inc. (MSBH) on May 19th, 2023 at the Chesapeake environmental Center in Grasonville. This annual event honors the exceptional work and dedication of dozens of community leaders working to enhance the mid-shore region’s behavioral health system.
