American Bankers Association has selected Scott Sturgill, CEO & President of The Peoples Bank, to serve on ABA’s Community Bankers Council. Sturgill attended the ABA Community Bankers Council meeting in Washington, November 13-15.

This year, high school students in the Kent Alternative Placement program are receiving community support through a weekly guest speaker series. That partnership is being fostered by Assistant Principal Tishara Collins, who is in her second year as the head of the KAP program at Kent County High School. Collins maintains a focus on building a sense of community inside the program and a connection with the broader community beyond the school walls.

On Thursday, November 23rd (Thanksgiving Day) the YMCA of the  Chesapeake will host seven Turkey Trot 5Ks across the Delmarva Peninsula. Proceeds from the Turkey  Trot are dedicated to the YMCA’s Annual Fund, which supports a multitude of programs for all ages across the Shore.

Shore Legal Access (formerly Mid-Shore Pro Bono) has named the Fall 2023 recipients of its Sandy Brown Public Interest Internship. Cody Pfieffer, of Centreville, Maryland, will work with Shore Legal Access staff at the organization’s Easton office, assisting residents of the Mid-Shore with their civil legal issues. Amirah Rice, of Baltimore, Maryland, will work at the Salisbury office, which serves the Lower Shore. 

The legacy of Kent County's late musical icon Tom McHugh lives on through the continuation of his Banjo Man performances in local schools. McHugh was a professor of music who taught at Washington College and Vassar College and later launched the Mainstay music venue in Rock Hall. As the Banjo Man, he would perform for students, often singing about life on the Chesapeake Bay. With McHugh's passing in 2021, the school programs he launched have continued.

Maryland Capital Enterprises, Inc. (MCE) announces that in partnership with  esteemed local businessman Mr. Palmer Gillis, we have hosted the twelfth annual MCE Palmer  Gillis Entrepreneur of the Year Award ceremony. The event took place on November 2, 2023, at  Salisbury University in the Assembly Hall of the Patricia R. Guerrieri Academic Commons building.  The ceremony recognized the exceptional achievements of local entrepreneurs who have made  significant contributions to the economy and community of the Eastern Shore. 

As For All Seasons continues to plan for meeting future community mental health needs on the Mid-Shore, the agency met with economic leaders at its headquarters in Easton. It was an opportunity for leaders to discuss the importance of investing in community mental health and rape crisis services.

Under the leadership of Kathy Deoudes, Chair, the UM Shore Regional Health Board of Directors recently welcomed four new members: LuAnn Brady, Marlene Feldman, Wayne Hockmeyer and Valerie Overton. The Board’s composition includes representatives from the five counties served by UM SRH, the regional physician community and UMMS.

Kate Hammil’s adaptation of “Little Women' brings the iconic 19th century story to a modern audience, focusing on current relevant issues while maintaining a conscious understanding of the March family as we know them. The show opens Friday, December 1st and runs weekends through December 17th. Show times are 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays and 2pm on Sundays.
