The Kent County Economic and Tourism Development Commission is pleased to announce the appointment of Charles Athey as Vice Chair of the 2024 Economic and Tourism Development Commission. Charlie was appointed to the Commission by the County Commissioners in March of 2022.
Final Survey: KCPS 2024-25 Calendar
Kent County Public Schools staff, families and community members are invited to fill out an online survey and provide their input on the two draft 2024-25 calendars. There are two calendars under review by the Kent County Board of Education. The two drafts and the survey results are expected to be presented at the Board's next meeting, Monday, Feb. 12.
USRC is Seeking Business Professionals to Provide Mentorship to Small Businesses in Cecil, Kent, and Queen Anne’s Counties
The Upper Shore Regional Council (USRC) is actively looking for experienced business professionals interested in mentoring new and established small businesses in Cecil, Kent, and Queen Anne’s Counties. The newly announced USRC Business Mentoring Program is a community-driven initiative designed to guide local business owners through critical decision-making processes, assist them in recognizing and seizing opportunities, and offer strategies to navigate challenges.

The nomination window for Kent County Public Schools' annual awards is officially open. Colleagues, students, parents, administrators, community leaders and others are encouraged to submit the names of quality educators for Kent County Public Schools' annual awards. Kent County Public Schools annually honor a Teacher of the Year, Support Employee of the Year and a Promising Educator.
UM Chester River Health Foundation Elects 2024 Officers: Woolever Is Chair
University of Maryland Chester River Health Foundation (UM CRHF) recently elected new officers for a three-year term to its board of directors. The Foundation raises funds for patient care services and equipment at UM Shore Medical Center at Chestertown; the hospital is part of the University of Maryland Shore Regional Health (UM SRH), which is a member organization of the University of Maryland Medical System.

2024 College and Career Fair to be Held on Friday, March 15th
On Friday, March 15, Kent County Public Schools, Kent County Chamber of Commerce, and Maryland Business Roundtable are teaming up to host the 3rd Annual Career & College Fair! The fair is open to all high school students in Kent County. We need your expertise! We'd like to have colleges, branches of the military, non-profits, and local businesses available to share opportunities: careers, internships, summer employment, volunteering, and more.
Sherrie Hill, RN, named “Everyday Hero”
Sherrie Hill, RN, MSN, CSHFN, clinical coordinator, University of Maryland Shore Medical Center (UM SMC) at Chestertown, was recently honored as an “Everyday Hero.” Hill was nominated by Mary Carlisle, a cardiopulmonary rehabilitation patient, for the knowledgeable and accessible care she provides at the hospital. UM SMC at Chestertown is part of the University of Maryland Shore Regional Health (UM SRH), which is a member organization of the University of Maryland Medical System.

Dr. Couch Announces Plan to Retire
Dr. Karen Couch, superintendent of Kent County Public Schools, will be retiring at the end of the current school year. Dr. Couch announced at this month's Kent County Board of Education meeting that her retirement will be effective June 30, 2024. She said at the Jan. 8 meeting that It has been an honor to collaborate with the exceptional team of administrators, teachers, staff and board members.
