Dr. Mary Boswell-McComas is bringing her decades of experience in education to Kent County Public Schools as the next superintendent. The Kent County Board of Education ratified a contract with Dr. McComas Monday evening, June 10. Her first official day on the job will be July 1.

Benedictine has been awarded the 2024 Best Nonprofit Organization Eastern Shore by What’s Up? Media for a second year in a row. The awards are selected by What’s Up? Media’s annual reader’s poll and Benedictine was chosen for this coveted honor amongst more than 300 nonprofits in the Eastern Shore region. 

Space is still available in 2024 YMCA of the Chesapeake summer camps. Camp programs are offered at the Cecil County YMCA, Easton Family YMCA, Henson Camp Cook in Salisbury, Kent County Family YMCA, Lower Shore Family YMCA, Perkins YMCA in St. Michaels, Queen Anne’s County Family YMCA and Robbins Family YMCA in Cambridge. 

Wednesday, June 5, marked the graduation ceremony for Kent School’s Class of 2024. Students, parents, employees, Trustees and community gathered in the M. V. “Mike” Williams Gymnasium to celebrate the graduating class. The eleven member class was recognized for their embodiment of academic, artistic, athletic and moral excellence.

There were lots of accomplishments to highlight on the field in Trojan Stadium Friday, May 31 as the 142 members of the Kent County High School Class of 2024 celebrated their graduation. Principal Kris Hemstetter led the 53rd annual KCHS commencement ceremony, this year employing a running theme of the Bruno Mars hit song "24K Magic" to highlight how bright the Class of 2024 shines.

A long delayed reunion brings hope. Pressure threatens the perfect date. These are the stories that will provide the thrilling, enlightening, hilarious and occasionally touching moments you will find in the Garfield Center’s 2024 edition of Short Attention Span Theatre.

Kent Attainable Housing is pleased to announce that our 2025 request for Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) for the “Kent County Affordable Housing” project has been submitted to the Appropriations Committee, thanks to the support of Senator Ben Cardin and Senator Chris Van Hollen. The senators recognized the project's importance to Maryland and affirmed that it represents a responsible and impactful use of federal taxpayer funds.

Four recent Kent County High School grads plan to keep their sports careers going when they head off to college this fall. On Thursday, May 16, seniors Trice Moore, Martin Parrish, Will Speakman and Landon Wallace celebrated their plans in the high school's auditorium with their families and some Trojan teammates present.

Benedictine celebrated the winner and all the nominees of the distinguished Sister Jeannette award during its annual Staff Appreciation Celebration. The award was established in 2012 by the Benedictine Board of Directors in honor of Sister Jeannette, who served as Benedictine’s leader for over 30 years. The annual award recognizes an employee who exemplifies Benedictine’s values of dignity, integrity, collaboration and excellence.
