On Wednesday, April 23, the Kent County Chamber of Commerce welcomed legislators from Maryland’s 36th District for a Post-Legislative Session Discussion at Heron Point in Chestertown. The event provided local residents, business owners, and community leaders an opportunity to engage directly with elected officials about the outcomes of the 2025 Maryland General Assembly session.
The Kent County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the appointment of Kelly Cuff Reed as its new Deputy Executive Director. A longtime resident of Kent County, Kelly brings a deep-rooted commitment to community engagement and a strong background in nonprofit leadership to her new role.
The Kent County Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the recipients of the 2025 Community Excellence Awards held on January 29th at the Chester River Yacht and Country Club in Chestertown. These awards honor outstanding contributions to our community, through commitment, innovation, and leadership in three distinct categories. Harborview Farms was named the 2025 Business of the Year, Shore Community Outreach Team was awarded the 2025 Organization of the Year, and Kristen Owen was recognized as the 2025 Individual of the Year.
The role of this position is to ensure the effective operation of the Kent County Chamber of Commerce office. This individual must be both detail-oriented and customer service focused in order to ensure the effective internal operations of the Kent Chamber. As the first contact for members and the community, the Deputy Executive Director will work to maintain a welcoming environment both in person and through electronic communication.

The Kent County Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce its Inaugural Golf Tournament, proudly sponsored by Cross Street Realtors. This highly anticipated event will take place on Monday, June 17th, at the Chester River Yacht and Country Club and is open to all golf enthusiasts in the community. The tournament will feature a scramble format, with registration beginning at 11:00 AM and a shotgun start at noon. Participants will enjoy a day of friendly competition, networking, and fun, with prizes awarded to the top teams and winners of various on-course contests.

These awards honor outstanding contributions to our community, through commitment, innovation, and leadership in three distinct categories. Eastern Shore Urgent Care was named the 2024 Business of the Year, Horizons of Kent and Queen Anne’s was awarded the 2024 Organization of the Year, and Deeann Jones was recognized as the 2024 Individual of the Year.
Dr. Mary Boswell-McComas, superintendent of Kent County Public Schools, is holding a town hall on the proposed budget for next year. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 1 at the Kent County Public Schools Administrative Building in Rock Hall. Dr. McComas will give a presentation on the budget proposal currently being reviewed by the Kent County Board of Education and will listen to comments and answer questions from attendees.
Main Street Historic Chestertown (MSHC), with funding from the Community Legacy program administered by the State of Maryland’s Department of Housing and Community Development, offers matching grants for façade improvements made to commercial buildings and storefronts in the historic downtown district. The program was created to encourage building renovaon, historic preservation, and improved economic vitality. It is known that quality aesthetics increase property values and sales revenues and improve the marketability of space within the buildings.
Kent County Public Schools invites parents and families to a special meeting this month to learn more about Title I schools and provide input. The Title I Parent and Family Engagement Meeting will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 24 in the media center at H.H. Garnet Elementary School in Chestertown. This meeting is held each year to help families stay engaged and learn about the opportunities offered under Title I.
Common Thread Interiors, a new destination for finely curated interior design services and handcrafted home furnishings, celebrated its official ribbon cutting on a perfectly beautiful spring evening, surrounded by the warmth and support of friends, family, and community members.
The Garfield Center will open its second production of their 2025 season on April 25th. Sean Grennan’s play, “A Rock Sails By,” focuses on Dr. Lynn Cummings, a facts-only astrophysicist, who has discovered herself at life’s crossroads as she deals with personal, life-altering challenges. She has always believed in science over faith in the unknown, but this certainty, once a source of comfort, is now a cause for emptiness. When an unidentified object is sighted heading toward Earth, she grants an interview to a journalist who misquotes her. With her credibility on the line, she invites him to witness the object with her as it comes closest to Earth. Dr. Cummings hopes it will pass without incident, but there is no telling what she will discover beyond the stars. It is a thought-provoking story filled with wit, humor, emotion and meaning.
Kent County Public Schools is accepting applications for anyone interested in serving on the Citizen Advisory Committee. The Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC) is a structured group that meets about specific issues impacting educational policy, activities and programs. The CAC may also respond to requests from the Kent County Board of Education for research and recommendations on specific educational issues.

University of Maryland Shore Medical Center (UM SMC) at Chestertown is beginning preparations for a new state-of-the-art MRI machine at its diagnostics center located at 100 Brown Street.
