On Tuesday, May 23 at 4 pm, there will be a ceremony on the front lawn of 400 High Street, Chestertown to celebrate and honor the fallen for Memorial Day 2023. The ceremony will also unveil a temporary public art installation of a field of more than 400 Ceramic Poppies created by students at Kent County High School and potters and crafts people from all over Kent County.
KCMS Students Participate in Earth Day Cleanup, Activities
Kent County Middle School students fanned out around the county Friday, April 21 for cleanups and other activities in recognition of Earth Day. Middle school students in all three grades got in on the Earth Day activities. Some projects kept them close in Chestertown; others saw students travel to Rock Hall, Galena and other areas of the county.

Honor a personal hero - a veteran, member of our armed forces, police officer, firefighter, family member, teacher, or friend who has made a positive impact on your life. Flags will be proudly displayed on Washington College’s parcel located at Washington Avenue and Morgnec Road for Commencement Weekend and Memorial Day Weekend. A list of flag sponsors and their heroes will appear in local publications for Memorial Day Weekend. 100% TAX DEDUCTIBLE. Proceeds will support local veteran and other worthy causes.
Eleanor and Ethel Leh Women’s Center Installs New Mammography Machine
A new, state-of-the-art Senographe Pristina 3D mammography machine with tomosynthesis is the most recent addition to the Eleanor and Ethel Leh Women’s Center at UM Shore Medical Center at Chestertown. Designed by women, for women, this new equipment offers a more comfortable mammogram experience, with adjustments made for better positioning and compression, and improved image quality. Proper positioning and better image quality reduce the need for repeat scans.
Antone Black Jr. Receives Golden Anchor Award
One of the school system's lead custodians, who is always ready to pitch in and help with a smile for staff and students, was honored this month by the Kent County Board of Education. At a board meeting held Wednesday, April 5, Rock Hall Elementary School's Antone Black Jr. received the Golden Anchor Award.

Friday, May 19 and Saturday, May 20, members of Kent School’s Class of 2023 will perform Disney’s Moana Jr. The performances. The performances are open to the public and admission is free. KCHS Recognized for College-bound Students
Kent County High School is one of 23 School of Excellence honorees in the nation by the American College Application Campaign. The announcement came in early April from ACT, a nonprofit organization "helping people achieve education and workplace success." According to ACT, the American College Application Campaign seeks to "increase the number of first-generation college students and students from low-income families pursuing a college degree or other higher education credential."

Compass to Host Patient Care Volunteer Training
Compass will be offering their three-day training session for any individuals interested in becoming a patient care volunteer. The training session is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 5, 12, and 19th. The training will be held at our Barnette Center's Hope & Healing Conference room located at 255 Comet Dr. Centreville, MD 21617.
