A Town-Wide Family Event That You Won’t Forget! The Rock Hall Pirates and Wenches Weekend is Celebrating 16 Years!! On the weekend of August 11-13th, 2023, landlubbers and buccaneers, young and old, will once again set sail to Rock Hall, MD for the town’s SIXTEENTH “Best of the Bay” award-winning, Pirates and Wenches Weekend! Come by land or come by sea to the Town of Rock Hall on the Isle of Delmarva located on the Upper Chesapeake Bay for a town-wide family event that you’ll never forget! This is a great opportunity to bring your boat, anchor out or raft up with your mates. Rock Hall is less than a tank of gas from Philadelphia, Baltimore, D.C, and Northern Virginia.

Kent County Public Schools is a growing a community of environmental leaders, with teachers and students completing eco-friendly projects.   The State of Maryland requires environmental literacy programs as part of each local school system's curriculum. Teachers here create lessons that provide real-world, hands-on learning experiences about the environment.

University of Maryland Shore Regional Health is launching an in-person and participatory five-session workshop titled “Breathe Again: A Journey to a Smoke-Free and Healthier YOU,” designed to help smokers who wish to quit. The class will be offered in-person from 1 to 3 p.m., beginning Monday, July 10, with sessions running through November. There is no charge for the course, but registration is required. 

Godfrey’s Farm held its 3rd annual Blueberry Boogie 5K Run/Walk with 215 participants walking or running in the race. This year’s event raised $17,000, which included a matching grant from Denise Kaczmarczyk and John Johnson, to support Benedictine’s programs that provide crucial services for moderate to severe developmentally disabled children and adults.

The Chestertown Rotary Club chose GES and the One School One Book program to benefit from their annual Soup & Sip fundraiser. Rotary Clubs are part of a diverse group of professional leaders working to address various community service needs. The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise.

Benedictine is proud to announce the graduation of eight students from its school on June 8th. The ceremony took place on the campus in Ridgely. Graduates gathered after the ceremony for a reception with family, friends and staff to celebrate. For Benedictine’s students, this graduation is a culmination of many years of hard work overcoming challenges to move forward and live their best life.

The annual passing of the nameplate for the student member of the Kent County Board of Education has occurred. With his graduation from Kent County High School in June, Brayden Wallace completed his one-year term as the student member of the board. Rising senior Maddison Messick has been named the new student member. She will take her seat at the board's July 10 meeting.

On Friday, July 7th, piano impresario Joe Holt, the host of the Mainstay’s popular monthly First Friday programs, welcomes singer Holly Lane to share the stage with him. Holly and Joe have prepared an evening of songs with a Parisian-theme, her first love.

Kent County Public Schools elementary students took home new friends for story time this summer thanks to a pair of local authors. Matthew Swanson and Robbi Behr, the creative husband-and-wife team behind books such as "The Real McCoys" and "The Cookie Chronicles" series, have spent the last year on the road.

University of Maryland Shore Medical Group - Women’s Health recently welcomed Janyne E. Althaus, MD, a University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) perinatologist who specializes in managing high-risk pregnancies, and Abbie L. Fields, MD, a leading gynecologic oncologist with UM SOM. Dr. Althaus and Dr. Fields are seeing patients at the Easton-based practice at 522 Idlewild Avenue.
