The Kent County Chamber of Commerce held its annual Post-Legislative Session Discussion with legislators from Maryland’s 36th Electoral District on Wednesday, May 3rd, at Heron Point in Chestertown. This year’s session was moderated by Dawson Hunter, Transportation & Housing Coordinator for Kent County Economic and Tourism Development, and member of the Kent County Chamber of Commerce’s Voice of Business Committee.

A signature event of the Kent Chamber and a longtime favorite of its members and the community, the Post-Legislative Session Discussion provides a wealth of insight on the results of the recent legislative session.  The 36th District legislators in attendance were Senator Steve Hershey, and Delegates Jay Jacobs, Steven Arentz, and Jeff Ghrist. During the discussion, our legislators answered questions on Kirwin - The Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, Growth Plans and Funding Streams for Kent County, the Family and Medical Leave Insurance Program, Minimum Wage, and Cannabis.

“I am thankful we could resume an in-person Post-Legislative Session and breakfast in Kent County this year,” says Sarah King, Kent County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director. “The questions the Voice of Business Committee posed to the legislators were well-researched and relevant to Kent County, and the responses from the legislators were informative and valuable.”

The goal of the Voice of Business (VoB) Committee is to communicate with members on national trends and local, state and federal government decisions and discuss the impact they have on Kent County businesses.
