Ribbon Cutting Date Set for Sultana’s Lawrence Wetlands Preserve

The Sultana Education Foundation invites the public to the ribbon cutting ceremony for its new Lawrence Wetlands Preserve on Tuesday, October 17th at 11:00 am. There will be a short dedication with brief remarks by Sultana President Drew McMullen, state Senator Stephen Hershey, state Delegate Jay Jacobs, National Park Service Planning and Development Manager Bob Campbell, and Kent County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Karen Couch. The ceremony will be followed by refreshments at the Preserve’s recently completed Harwood Nature Center and attendees will have an opportunity to walk the property.

Nineteen years ago, Rebuilding Together Kent County (RTKC) was formed by caring residents who wanted to help neighbors whose homes were devastated by Hurricane Isabel. From the very beginning, the Presbyterian Church of Chestertown supported this fledgling nonprofit, offering vital financial support, providing volunteers from its congregation, and providing a free office space for organizational records and administrative team members.

McCall “Mickey” Breuer, CNM, WHNP-BC, recently joined UM Shore Medical Group – Women’s Health. Formerly a provider with WomanWise Midwifery in Blue Bell, Pa., her midwifery experience includes providing general benign gynecology, prenatal, OB triage, contraceptive and intrapartum and postpartum care. In outpatient and inpatient settings, she has managed patients with gestational hypertension, pre-eclampsia and gestational diabetes.

KCPS Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

The lilting chorus of Cuban folk song "Guantanamera" filled the cafeteria of H.H. Garnet Elementary School in Chestertown Thursday, Sept. 21. Local resident and artist Fredy Granillo strummed his guitar as he taught the song to students that morning as part of the Celebración del mes del la Herencia Hispana in the county. The Celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month was brought into schools during September through partnerships with the Kent County Local Management Board and the Kent Cultural Alliance.
